Our Story

X-Cel Sports was envisioned with the idea of revolutionizing how ice hockey skills training & player development is approached on & off the ice. Our Founder, Coach Justin Greene, has trained players from Mites - College & Juniors & worked alongside many talented skills coaches. His vision to build X-Cel Sports began when his mentors immersed him in learning power skating & puck handling techniques both as a player & skills coach, where Justin began to identify where gaps in how players and coaches are developed existed. Justin started playing hockey at age 14, and had the odds stacked against him from day one. He wanted to grow himself into a top-tier skills coach, communicator, & grower of talent. Justin's focus is "giving hockey players a career path" where the sport often fails. X-Cel Sports is much more than an elite skills development organization- X-Cel Sports will give hockey players the opportunity to continue to stay close to the game they love, and help give future generations of players, coaches, GM's, trainers, Sports Operations Managers, & other key personalities that put the puck in the net greater opportunities than they could reach towards. X-Cel Sports is the premier innovator & pioneer in developing an ENTIRE NEW GENERATION of hockey talent on the ice, hockey talent coaching and developing athletes, & hockey talent shaping the next business leaders in our sport and beyond for years to come.

As we begin to expand Nationally & Internationally from our roots on Long Island, New York, where Justin is from, the story of X-cel Sports is unique, not because we are a great training platform, or the branding effort we make, or even the level of hockey players we train...

X-Cel Sports is most unique because its goal is to join, find, & grow the very best, brightest, most talented people on and off the ice into leaders who will grow the vision of Justin, & and many of his colleagues in hockey & business beyond what anyone thought was possible.

Justin remembers hoping at 14-16 years old that he could "skate like the pro's do someday"

That is the story of X-Cel Sports Hockey

The X-Cel Sports vision is to innovate ice hockey & sports through "developing talent backwards" as we say. Justin Greene, our Founder, developed this unique idea & mindset through his many experiences and thousands of hours on the ice growing skills & training hockey players. 

"Developing Talent Backwards" means focusing on creating, refining, & distributing the process of developing talent on the ice more closely, & more intensely than working with players on the ice. X-Cel Sport prides itself on delivering elite training in the form of Camps, Clinics, Private Training, and Contracted Training. 

Our unique vision, as Justin calls it, focuses on HOW we grow coaches, train coaches, develop techniques to demonstrate, communicate, and assess on the ice, and how we use technology & modern media in working with athletes.  

Justin learned how to become a stronger and more dynamic hockey player by adopting & developing the toolkit, knowledge, skills, & approach to trining other players at a very high level. This "Backwards Development" methodology is what has allowed Justin & his team of coaches to very quickly help get impactful and noticeable results for players at various levels including the Collegiate & Junior level. 

X-Cel Sports is the leader in innovating how Coaches, Trainers, Skills Development, & How Skills Sessions of all types all come together in a symbiotic way where the talent on the ice grows, and the talent on our staff & in the sport we are so passionate about grows even faster & in greater impacts.
